9/29 - Begin Chapter 5

Today we began talking about CH 5 - evolution. We read through the first section on chemical evolution.

We decided that the quiz for the chapter would be on THURSDAY of next week.

9/27 - Finish Up Notes, Review for Test

Today we looked over the Phosphorus and Sulfur Cycles. This finished up the notes. Then we reviewed the quiz from 4.1 - 4.3. After that, I took questions from the REview Worksheet, then the review worksheet was due.

9/25 - Carbon and Nitrogen Cycles

Today we went into detail about the Carbon and Nitrogen cycle. Make sure that you go over these carefully, they are always seen on the AP exam, and they will efinitely be on your test on Thursday.

9/22 - Continue with Ch 4 notes

Today we continued with the notes on Chapter 4. We learned about GPP and NPP, and started to learn about the earth cycles, the first one we went over was the water cycle. Remember to bring the Nitrogen cycle with you on Monday, we will be going over that in detail!

Also, please note that your vocab quiz was moved to TUESDAY!

9/21 - Finish going over FRQs

Today we went through the rest of the notes on FRQs. Please keep in mind what we went over when you are working on FRQs. You need to identify --> describe --> link together anything that you are writing about on an AP test.

9/20 - Ch4 quiz (sections 4.1-4.3) and begin going over FRQs

Today was the quiz on Ch4, sections 4.1 - 4.3. If you were absent, you will need to make up the quiz asap.

After the quiz, we read through the handout (you can download it from the apes folder, just click on the link above) on how to properly answer FRQs. Then we began going over a powerpoint on an example FRQ from the 2003 AP test, and what students wrote, and how much credit they got for what they wrote. You can also download the powerpoint from the APES folder.

9/19 - Continue Chapter 2 Notes

Today we continued with the Chapter 2 notes, what we went over today will NOT be on the quiz tomorrow. The information on the quiz ended with Monday's lecture.

Today we learned about food chains and food webs, we talked about the different parts of food chains and food webs. Then we learned about energy flow pyramids and biomass pyramids, and why they look the way they do.

REMEMBER** Your quiz is TOMORROW (on SEction 4.1-4.3)!! After that, we will be discussing FRQs, so please bring your downloaded copy of "How to answer FRQs" with you to class tomorrow. If you haven't downloaded it already, you can do so by going to the APES folder on the top of this page.

Today we focused on abiotic (non-living) and biotic (living)components of an ecosystem. Then we learned about aerobic and anaerobic respiration. We stopped today where the quiz on Wednesday ends.

Today we began the ecology notes. You should have already downloaded the notes for this Chapter. Download both the Ch4 notes and the Nitogen cycle notes.

Today we went over the case study, cells, the different different spheres, and how life is sustained on earth. Tomorrow we will pick up with what ecology covers.

Be sure to download the notes from the website. You should download both parts, the Ch4 notes, and the detailed notes on the nitrogen cycle.

9/6 - Quiz on Basic Chemistry

Today your basic chemistry worksheet was due. After that, we had a quiz on Basic CHemistry. If you were absent, you will need to make it up asap.

After the quiz, I handed out the Chemistry B worksheet, you worked on that for the rest of class.

You need to bring your notes for Chemistry "continued" tomorrow. For Camaratta's class: there is a second version up in the folder. This is the one that I want you to download, that we will start going over tomorrow.

9/5 - pH scale and titration demonstration

Today we went over the pH scale again, and learned about how there are 10x less H3O+ ions every time you go up one in the pH scale (and 10x more OH- ions). The website we went over was at:

Then we went through the titration lab along with a titration demonstration, remember:

M(acid) * V(acid) = M(base) * V(base)

M(acid) = concentration (molarity) of the acid
M(base) = concentration (molarity) of the base
V(acid) = volume of the acid
V(base) = volume of the base

Your Basic Chem Quiz is tomorrow, and your worksheet is due tomorrow as well.

9/1 - Get progress reports, finish Chemistry worksheets

TOday you received your first progress reports, which shows your grade in the class so far.

We also finished the Chemistry Worksheet, and almost all of the chemistry notes. We will review on Tuesday, and there will be a demonstration of a titration lab.
